Green apples and elephants is a growing business that aims to have a minimal impact on its environment, particularly in the use of tree products. Wherever possible we do not use virgin paper products, our headed paper, envelopes and business cards are made from 'ellie poo' paper and all paper coming into the office is recycled and our packaging is reduced, re-thought, recycled and/ or compostable. Our range of alternative ‘disposable’ tableware is made from paper alternatives such as fallen palm leaves, bagasse (the waste fibre from sugar cane pressing) and cassava (the tapioca plant.) These are all either annually renewable or natural waste products. All of the cards that we stock are printed on recycled paper. Promotional materials will be printed with vegetable based inks on recycled paper, or seeded paper that can be planted afterwards.
As part of our attempts at befriending trees, we will put 1% of our profits into bi-annual treeplanting events. We also put any (unlikely) money left over from postage and packaging charges in a big pot and add it to the sapling buying pot! We’d love for anyone that’s interested to join us, wellies donned and shovel in hand. Help us to help the trees stretch their legs! (Keep an eye on us for dates! If you register with us, we’ll keep you in the loop)
If you’re feeling so inclined when you make a purchase, (full of the tree befriending bug!) please click on the link in our pal’s page for the ‘Woodland Trust’ where you can make a donation to this important charity, join, make a tree dedication, or just find out what they’re up to all in the cause of the tree!
Here at Green apples and elephants, we aim to promote independent and local tradespeople. Our decorations are made by local, talented individuals wherever possible, and are made from natural products such as wicker, beeswax and reclaimed fabrics. We attempt to show our children by example how to live in a responsible way with respect for the planet and to live as part of a community, respecting the talents of the individuals within it. No small thing!
